Dyson Ball Animal 2 Review

hello everyone well with the recent announcement that Dyson are going to stop developing corded vacuum cleaners I thought it was time to rush out and panic by some corded models now just because Dyson are not going to develop any corded vacuum cleaners in the future doesn’t mean to say they won’t be manufacturing them so they might be in the shops for a few more years yet but I wasn’t going to take that chance so I had a knee-jerk reaction and I went out and bought this corded Dyson big bull canister vacuum so let’s get it unboxed this is a fairly new model designed with the new EU requirements in mind this is the dyson big ball animal – this one does use a filter but you can buy the kinetic version that doesn’t have any filter to wash but personally I like a filter so I went for the cheaper option I don’t mind washing a filter once a month so let’s get this bad boy opened so this could well be one of the last new Dyson canisters or cylinder cleaners we see but from what I’ve read on some social media on my own and on some of Dyson’s posts a lot of people aren’t happy with Dyson discontinuing corded vacuums and I certainly haven’t found a cordless vacuum that can replace accorded but Dyson think they have the technology to do that especially with their new v10 and hopefully you might see a v10 on my channel or with any luck you’ve already seen one I don’t know yet anyway here we go let’s quickly get this unboxed this does have a new cleaner head which I’m interested in trying out to my quick look at the energy label so this is model C y28 Dyson big ball it gets an A rating for energy use using on average 28 kilowatt hours per annum it gets an A rating for dust emissions it gets a C rating for dust pickup from carpet it gets a B rating for dust pickup from a hard floor and it’s just on 80 decibels which is the maximum allowable noise level for vacuum cleaners sold in the EU I’ll have a look at the instruction book in a bit more detail later so this is a newly designed and a bit dusty pneumatic head so this is the latest version of the muscle head so it should move up and down according to the surface you’re cleaning so when you go onto a hard floor it should adjust automatically and it should lower I don’t know if as a brush on this one it’s I think it’s more of a squeegee action for a hard floor but it should go automatically as you transgress from different surfaces you’ve got a plus and minus which I assume is a little suction control I’ll be showing you all this in the full demo but I like the look of that design quite flat so it should get under lower furniture you’ve got a nice pivot because it swivels to large wheels that seemed quite a robust nozzle you’ve also got smaller wheels as well lots of them got two smaller wheels here and one two three four five six are these tiny little wheels as well so I’ll be interesting to see how that performs next we have the small cleaning tools now this is this uses Dyson’s latest tool fitting so it’s not some of the older dyson tools will not be compatible with this model we have a nice nice long crevice tool there with the dusting brush attached so you can just slide that down you can slide it off altogether but you can slide it down to the bottom and lock it in place for your dusting comes to the clip to secure it to the wand secures that nozzle and also secures the upholstery / stair tool now this to me is a little bit of a backwards step and I don’t know know why Dyson did this but this is a much narrower and doesn’t seem as good as the turbo nozzle supplied with the last Dyson I looked at which was the kinetic kinetic big ball animal canister when I did quite a while ago on my channel that power head saw the air-powered head seemed a lot better than this I was a bit surprised that they’ve gone back to much much narrower head but we’ll see how that performs again it’s got the two types of brush you’ve got the nylon brush for carpets and you’ve got the soft carbon fiber brushes as well and with this one that looks like you can still turn it on and off if you want suction only but of course if you’re doing hard floors you’re probably better off using the pneumatic head this is the I believe the tangle free turbine yes because it’s the animal version you do get the small turbine as well so there you go that will clean up pet tears from your upholstery in stairs and pet bedding etc without tangling and you’ve got a little visual indicator on the top that spins around if I can hold it so you can see it so there’s that so that’s all the tools this is a nice design this is the handle you’ve got a suction relief valve here if you want to temporarily reduce suction you just pull that up and it allows some air into the host would use suction at the nozzle end and this pivots and swivels in lots of directions enabling you to not only clean down low but to reach up high as well so I do like I like that design and it’s a comfortable handle to hold as well vector size plastic not metal quite a substantial tube it’s quite thick it’s telescopic a little bit stiff to pull out but it is brand new you go state the cleaner out itself whoops and here’s the hose it’s pretty short to be honest I think that’s about 1 1 and a half meters would have preferred a slightly longer hose but there you go now here we have the cleaner just need to take the plug out of its little box the kinetic ball cannister a little bit dusty inside there for some reason very compact so hopefully this will be a little bit quieter as well being 80 decibels is fairly small oops it’s not ultra light but it’s not too bad it’s highly manoeuvrable turns like that it’s about the two big wheels I decide to the nice and smooth running and underneath to tiny little more like rollers at the back and one roller just there at the front and this also uses the cleaner being emptying where it actually wipes the shroud clean as you empty it so I think the only filter we have to maintain is the premotor there will be a post-motor filter on the back here but it’s actually molded in you can’t gain access to that will not be easily anyway it’s not supposed to be user serviceable I’ll check the wattage of this it should be fairly low being a low energy machine it’s a 600 watt vacuum so here’s the bin and unlike the previous one I tested there is a filter in the top here Radio route cyclone technology that pulls out so there you go it’s sort of a cup shaped filter rinse that under running water give it a squeeze leave it to dry just sits in the top of the bin there push it in and to empty the bin let me just check I think it’s every month yes every month Dyson suggests you wash the filter to move the bin from the cleaner there’s a red button here so just press that with your thumb and then if you have allergies I suggest you take this outside to empty it because with every bagless cleaner Dyson included when you open the bin dust is released into the air there’s nothing you can do about it this gets an A rating for dust emissions coming out of the exhaust so it does seal the dust in when you’re using the machine but you will be exposed to dust even if you’re very very careful the way you empty it dust will get airborne so do it outside in a well-ventilated space if you have allergy issues so to actually enter this one it does have a two-stage system so we have the button here so if you press it lightly first and push it down what will happen the whole bin moves down and the red squeegee here wipes the metal shroud clean of any debris so you just press it down and as you can see that’s exposing the shroud so anything that hasn’t been wiped off and it does get most of that everywhere you can remove it yourself but then to actually open the pin at the bottom you press this button again and the door will open releasing the dirt must say does look a lot smoother inside on my Dyson kinetic big ball upright I did find quite a lot of hairs got trapped in the machine and I had to put my hand in to pull them out but that one does look a lot cleaner I’ll soon find out when I’m doing a proper test of this we’ll see if the emptying is a bit cleaner but at it because it wipes the shroud clean and the designers of beam it does look like it will empty most of the debris out without any intervention from you so to actually close the bin again you just close the flap push it up until it locks into position you probably can do that if you put it on the floor as well you don’t even want to touch because inevitably dust will get around here there’s no no wake up around getting around there so I suppose if I stand up you could do it without touching it like that push down make sure it’s clicked shut and you can do it that way so that makes it a little bit cleaner you’re not going to be anywhere near the dust that can gather around the bottom of the bin it does actually give you a warning on here do not use on rubble plaster or ash I mean that’s the same for most vacuum cleaners you shouldn’t really use them for certainly not for rubble ash as well as plaster dust can be the death of many vacuum cleaners it’s very fine and it can get into the motor and cause a premature failure but that fits on there nicely you’ve got your two buttons that’s your auto cord rewind and the red button switches the cleaner on and off let’s connect the hose up it does have a better air path some of the earlier Dyson canisters they can get blocked in this sort of area but with this one there’s more of a direct air path into the machine there is a slight angle on the hose connection but it’s nothing like previous models so hopefully you should find that this machine shouldn’t clog up like some cleaners can but if you’re using it properly and you’re not picking up any large objects you shouldn’t really have a problem with this machine clogging so there we go that’s that and we’ve got the hose end here now onto the hose end you can actually fit the nozzles directly so all of the nozzles will fit onto here so if you want to clean your car example you want to do your car mats especially underneath the the seats if you’re in the back of the car and you want to clean underneath the front seats some vacuums are quite awkward because of the size of the handle but because you can fit it directly onto the hose it gives you a lot more flexibility to get into those nooks and crannies and it’s a nice click fitting to release you press the red button but of course you can fit the handle and that’s you’d use that most of the time when you doing your floor and carpet cleaning and that just clips in a nice firm click and of course then you can connect the nozzles to the handle so in that configuration that’s good for your stairs but when you’re cleaning your floors of course you want to attach the extension wand and then finally depending on what you’re cleaning you can either attach the small motorized or turbo head the air pipe a air power turbine or this new head here fits on okay let’s plug this in and see how noisy it is that is nice and quiet something that I couldn’t have said of many Dyson’s in the past I’ve had a lot of dyson cleaners and the noise level is quite deafening in some cases but this one it obviously is a lot quieter but it had to be made quieter due to EU regulations but that is a very good thing some people don’t like the EU interfering with vacuum cleaners and their light bulbs and all their day-to-day things but in this case reducing the noise level to a maximum of 80 was very good and I hope in the future manufacturers can reduce that even further it’s a nice sounding machine it’s not shrill on the ear so that is a great improvement and we have to thank we do have to thank the EU for making the manufacturers produce quieter cleaners right let’s give it a quick push now put it on its maximum it is fairly hard to push on this short pile carpet and it’s left a few hairs which is why it’s got the turbo brush I found straight suction nozzles don’t often effectively deal with pet hair but because this has the animal turbo brush we can see how well that does I’m going to put it on the minimum setting which should introduce some air into the top of the clean I think here top of the head it will make it easier to push but it might reduce its dust pickup efficiency yes on the minimum setting it is a lot easier to push so it’s up to you you get the ease of pushing on minimum but as I said it might reduce the dust pickup effectiveness but if you want to work out once in a while slide it over to the plus button you’ll probably find it gets your carpets a little bit cleaner but you might develop biceps that’s the problem with a lot of these low energy vacuums to seal the suction in to try and get the pickup rating often these seal these heads are sealed and they can be very hard to push this isn’t as bad as some of the machines I’ve tested some machines when used on maximum are almost impossible to push the cleaner hose so you know it’s a little bit difficult on that but it’s it’s not too bad if you can try it out in a shop before you buy that’s a good thing but of course the shop carpets won’t be exactly like your carpets but all in all it seems pretty pretty good I do like the lower noise level of this now when I put the turbine head on it is going to increase the noise level let’s have a look at that although saying that this is quite a quiet turbine head often when you connect an air-powered nozzle to a vacuum it can really increase the noise level that personally wasn’t too bad I caught a phone that okay mister give this a go this will be easier to move across the carpet even on full suction let’s move that out the way much easier to move it has picked up the pet tears that the pneumatic head just moved about but as I said earlier it’s very very narrow it’s okay in a confined space but if you’ve got a large area of carpeting it’s not so good but personally if you’ve got a lot of carpet to clean you’re better off using an upright vacuum if we compare the sizes of the nozzles so as you can see the turbine head is quite a bit shorter than the standard head about two inches I’d say so for larger areas of carpet that might take quite some time I’ll just show you the tangle free turbine nozzle in action that is fairly noisy it is a bit quieter actually when you’re using it against some fabric I have found that quite effective on pet hair when I do the full demo of this I’ll be testing it just on pet hair using this nozzle and of course the larger turbine head will see how effective the normal head is on pet hair as well but I’ll be seeing also how it picks up on hard floors as well as picking up some general dirt former carpets the tool holder fits on the side of the wand here so you can store a stair tool and the combination crevice and dusting tool and they fit securely there so they’re always at hand ready for instant use I haven’t put any visible dirt down for this unboxing but I will be doing so in the demonstration but I’ve noticed that there is some dirt in the bin despite the fact that the carpet did look clean let’s have a look Oh little bit of dust in there then if if I can show you let’s move the cleaner there I don’t want this nice new Dyson getting covered in dust let’s move that out the way there won’t be very much in here I have vacuumed fairly recently so obviously releasing the bin nothing around the shroud at this stage but we haven’t really put any dirt in to it try and open it without some letting it fall down here we are so that’s not bad from a clean carpet seemingly clean carpet we’ve already got some dust that’s very very small area the only amount up cleaned is the amount you’ve seen me clean in the video and they have pet hair there that wasn’t really visible on the carpet until I started vacuuming so pretty impressive yep so far so good let’s just test the effectiveness of the auto cord rewind yes very good there is a bracket on the back of the pneumatic head that allows you to slide it into the parking bracket on the back of the cleaner well that’s the end of my unboxing and initial first look at the dyson big ball animal two cylinder vacuum cleaner if you have any questions about this machine please ask in the comment section below and stay tuned for the full demonstration which will be coming up shortly so until the next time thanks for watching and I’ll see you soon bye for now
